Beyond Products and Services: Transforming Your Business into a Powerful Brand Elon Musk sells Tesla: are you still buying Tesla stocks? And this applies to any product or service that has powerful branding behind it. The attention economy has completely redesigned the way customers interact with brands and make buying decisions. They want the Trust Value. The vision Mission Core values behind your business do matter to them. The world has shifted. The power transitioned from brands into the hands of the consumers. They no longer want to buy from faceless brands. They want to know YOU: the founder or executive behind the business. in 1997 Tom Peters published an article The Brand called You and that was the launch of the concept of Personal Branding as we know it. If you are interested in this fabulous article here is a PDF to download: simply amazing! But the reality is: the concept existed from the beginning of the world. Hence centuries later we are still speaking about historical figures, artists, entrepreneurs who changed the world. FACT: Many Sell. Few build Empires. You are more than a Product or Service: you are a Brand. Or at least you should start thinking of yourself and your business as that. The evolution from a product or service provider to a brand is a transformative journey. It requires a deep understanding of your purpose, a commitment to consistency, and a dedication to creating meaningful experiences. For businesses aspiring to achieve long-term success and impact, investing in branding is not optional—it is essential. As brand advisors, it is our privilege to guide and support this journey, helping companies not just to compete, but to lead and inspire. In the hyper-competitive landscape of today’s market, standing out is more challenging than ever. As a brand advisor to small businesses as well as global brands, I've seen firsthand how businesses that focus solely on their products and services often struggle to maintain long-term success. The key to breaking through the noise and capturing attention lies in transforming your business into a powerful brand. Why Branding is Your Competitive Edge Creating Emotional Connections: People don’t just buy products; they buy stories and experiences. A strong brand taps into emotions, fostering loyalty and advocacy. Brands like Apple and Nike don’t just sell technology and sportswear—they sell a lifestyle and a sense of identity. Building Trust and Credibility: In a world overflowing with choices, a trusted brand becomes a beacon. Consistent quality and messaging build credibility, ensuring that customers choose your brand over others time and time again. Achieving Differentiation: In saturated markets, differentiation is critical. While products and services can be imitated, a brand’s unique story and identity set it apart. This distinctiveness is what makes a brand memorable and preferred. Best Strategy for Building a Strong Brand? Before anything else: DO CARE! INVEST IN YOUR CUSTOMERS! INTERACT WITH THEM! BE RESPONSIVE! Major Don't: Not responding to your DM's, comments, emails etc. from your audience, consumers, potential partners. I am amazed how many brands and executives disregards the messages sent. Failing to respond to comments, emails on Instagram, LinkedIn etc. or any other platforms signal you either do not care or your staff assigned to respond is not trained properly. ! This of course doesn't include the spammy or unsolicited sales messages we are bombarded with. Who wants respond to those? But there are lots of interactions they are worthy to pay attention to. Enhancing Customer Experience should always be a priority for you. Every customer interaction contributes to your brand perception. Ensure that every touchpoint—whether it’s browsing, purchasing, or after-sales support—is positive and memorable. The Tangible Benefits of a Strong Brand Increased Customer Loyalty: Strong brands foster customer loyalty. Loyal customers not only return but also become brand advocates, spreading positive word-of-mouth and driving new business. Commanding Premium Pricing: A well-established brand can command higher prices. Customers are willing to pay more for the perceived value and assurance that comes with a trusted brand. Attracting Top Talent: People want to work for brands they admire. A strong brand attracts talented individuals who are motivated and aligned with your company’s values, driving innovation and growth. Enhanced Resilience: In times of crisis, a strong brand provides a buffer. Loyal customers are more likely to stick by your brand, and the trust you’ve built can help navigate through challenges effectively. Global Market Pressure: Luxury Brands are Feeling the Heat Fresh from a trip to Europe and following a 3 week newsletter hiatus I am shifting priorities hoping to bring you news and insights to support your continuous personal growth and professional expansion. As employees, executives and entrepreneurs we are accustomed to operate often as human doings ... but we cannot disregards our human being aspect. Everything that happens around us on a global scale impacts the way we interact, work and build success. While the Luxury sector may not be everyone's cup of tea I am hoping that today's insights will shed light on business, branding strategies and consumer behaviors that can help you re-design your business approach. Let's dive into it! 🆘 The Luxury sector is in crisis! Did we see it coming? The world is shifting rapidly. Amid ongoing economical and geopolitical crisis humans are impacted by all these external circumstances. The digital age and social media platforms with their rapid perpetuation of information are bringing to audiences a plethora of brands and products. It seems like every influencer and celebrity today has a beauty and fashion brand. With their tremendous following they are becoming strong competitors for luxury brands. 📌 But realistically why are global brands facing downturns that can no longer be concealed? Which one of these possible factors are you voting for? ➡ Is the overly saturated market to blame and the rise of social media and changes in consume behavior? Until about a decade ago or so we had the luxury brands and a few fast fashion brands like Zara and H&M. The choices weren't limitless. In order to look polished one had to invest in themselves. Luxury items was perceived as a tool to leverage to enter the "privileged" circles. People were expected to dress a certain way to be considered part of the high society... Fast forward to today... ➡ Are global brands diluting their value and loosing their WOW-factor? Until the influencer marketing era in order to be invited to the high-end fashion shows you had to be a celebrity, a well-respected entrepreneur or a great story of success. A certain high-value hierarchy was specifically designed for these shows and events. Participating was a proof of status and relevance! Today it seems that these events lost the timeless, elegance value. Socialites and actors are rubbing elbows with influencers who aren't often as polished. Do you remember when Kim Kardashian was Kanye's +1 at the Met Gala? Exactly! You get my point! When you dilute your audience you dilute people's perception of your brand! Simple as that! ➡ Are the global economical instability and geopolitical uncertainty impacting consumer confidence and spending ability? The luxury market is experiencing a significant decline with conglomerates like LVMH and Kering feeling the shift. 📉 The slowdown in luxury spending especially in key markets like China and United States has raised concerns. There's an estimated 1-2% decline in sales for LVMH compared to previous periods. Legacy car and watch brands like Patek Philippe ROLEX Rolls-Royce Motor Cars are feeling the slowdowns in costume spending as well. 💲 The weaker consumer spending alongside economic challenges such as inflation and rising interest rates plus geopolitical instability are partially to blame. Beyond these FACTS let's share another TRUTH: Factoring in the latest big changes for powerful brands like CHANEL, Alexander McQueen, Tom Ford, Gucci just to name a few where their creative directors either resigned or have been replaced may suggest there's a deeper issue. Is CREATIVITY stalling due to designers being pressured to design for a "certain" market compromising their ability to focus on beauty? The latest fashion weeks in New York, Milano and the one in Paris that just started are for the most part lacking fabulosity. Those mega fashion presentations used to be so highly anticipated, and yet lately the collections are lacking that WOW-factor, the element of surprise. Partially the pressure added by fast fashion and the change in consumer preferences with the raise of social media and limitless options is a reason for it. Donatella shared an interesting perspective with The Business of Fashion following her recent Spring/Summer 2025 in Milano: https://youtu.be/mPSLPIOXFpM?si=qiulNFCPU25i6DSl
